Black Duck Software Seminars to Highlight Open Source Best Practices

Black Duck Software, the leading provider of software compliance management solutions, will be conducting a series of free seminars on open source software this month. The seminars entitled "Outlook and Issues for Open Source in the Enterprise in 2005" will be held in Boston, New York and Silicon Valley.


Dan Bricklin and Karen Copenhaver, two noted open source commentators, will highlight open source trends and compliance issues for 2005. They will make a compelling case for the use of open source in software development, and illustrate the new disciplines that will become a necessary part of the development process as open source achieves its full potential in the enterprise.

Topics will emphasize best practices for enterprise developers related to software compliance management, and how Sarbanes-Oxley-related business processes and controls intersect with open source software.

These seminars are intended for enterprise-level development managers and business decision-makers with direct responsibility for the implementation and management of software assets.

Dan Bricklin is one of the preeminent technical minds in the software industry. He is presently president of Software Garden, Inc., a software applications developer. He is best known for co-developing VisiCalc, the first electronic spreadsheet, and is a founding trustee of the Massachusetts Software Council.

Karen Copenhaver is a top legal expert on compliance and licensing issues. Currently Black Duck's executive vice president and general counsel, Karen previously served as a partner in the Patent and Intellectual Property Group of Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault LLP practicing in the area of technology licensing.
