BlackBall(R) and ApplianceWare Announce Strategic Partnership
Saturday, 27 August 2005BlackBall® Inc., a leading provider of industrial strength search products, and ApplianceWare, a cost-effective development resource for Linux and Java software solutions, have established a strategic partnership that allows for the embedding of BlackBall search technology in ApplianceWare's Network NAS OS. The integrated solution will allow files to be located instantly on NAS appliances, which are based on Intel's XScale technology.
"Finding emails, presentations, spreadsheets, etc., has never been more challenging on NAS appliances," said Patricia Brown, President of BlackBall, Inc. "OEMs of ApplianceWare's best-of-breed NAS OS will now have all the benefits of search & retrieval and file management for unstructured databases, all in one integrated solution... without having to learn a new application."
BlackBall's system-level software utilizes a patent-pending keyword indexing methodology that enables fast, accurate searches, automatically indexing files as they are saved to NAS volumes. The products leverage real-time indexing, optimal for system performance and search accuracy. The search index addresses the complexity of rich media files by understanding specific metadata structures in these files.

"We're making a flexible, high capacity, high value storage solution accessible to market segments that have previously been unable to afford them," said Stacy Kenworthy, CEO of ApplianceWare, Inc. "The role of the ApplianceWare Storage Operating System and the ApplianceView Management Framework is to simplify the use of large quantities of storage. We do this by translating normally complex management tasks into an easy to understand graphical user interface. Adding BlackBall to the mix simplifies this dramatically."
OptiNAS, the ApplianceWare NAS OS, is available in a range of configurations, from single processor embedded systems to multiprocessor enterprise class storage arrays. OptiNAS is based on the Linux operating system and includes the ApplianceView™ management system, complying with the Common Information Model (CIM) standard for maximum ease of use and interoperability.
