Bugopolis upgrades Product Offerings with Bugzilla 2.18 and Red Hat Linux

Tuesday, 18 January 2005

Bugopolis, LLC, provider of open-source developer tools, is pleased to announce the inclusion Bugzilla 2.18 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux in our turn-key defect tracking server appliances and hosting services which carry no per-seat license fees. These software upgrades, along with a larger selection of hardware offerings, position Bugopolis to better meet the growing demand for open-source products that not only compete with their commercial counterparts but also meet traditional IT department requirements.

“Bugzilla 2.18 is our best release to date” says Bugzilla.org, an international team working together for seven years to produce superior defect tracking software with over 100,000 users. Bugzilla is under very active development and is filled with countless features that even the most expensive solutions lack. Along with impressive charting and graphing features, Bugzilla 2.18 provides a centralized system for entering bugs, assigning and tracking defect progress with automatic email notification, advanced reporting, inter-bug dependency graphing, integrated product-based security schemas, a Google-like bug search, full text search, localization support, time tracking, multiple authentication methods, user wildcard matching, enterprise group support, available CVS or Perforce integration and extensive configurability.

Bugopolis which introduced the BugStation with Bugzilla in 2002 is now offering Red Hat Enterprise Linux as an optional operating system for customers. “The addition of Red Hat Enterprise Linux plays a key role in increasing the acceptance of our open-source offerings across a broader marketplace,” says Bonnie Walters, VP of Marketing for Bugopolis. “Clients transitioning to open-source products need to be able to migrate to new versions of the distribution with ease and the Red Hat product assures simplified deployment of distributed applications, and a consistent environment for users and system administrators.”

In addition to software and operating system upgrades Bugopolis has enhanced server offerings ranging from 1U to 3U rack mount servers and hardware RAID comes standard on all of them. The servers provide secure access to the internet for Bugopolis customers. The system is harder to penetrate than the default configuration for many open-platform systems. It has limited entry points and Bugopolis has hardened the system to reduce the risk of an intruder gaining access to data. The "hardened" server is secure enough to operate outside a corporate firewall making remote access more secure for companies with multiple locations.

Bugopolis products are trusted by technology experts across a diverse group of customers including the U.S. Navy, NASA, Chevron Texaco, Texas Instruments, state and federal government agencies, universities and small developer groups. The enthusiastic response of the market demonstrates that companies are open to and searching for reliable alternatives to products that carry with them high license fees, and that they are receptive to Bugopolis open-source solutions.

“Companies just need the support and services they get with traditional offerings to make the transition to the new technology possible”, noted Walters. “Summing up the reasons why we have been able to penetrate the traditional marketplace with so much success is easy. First, we provide best of breed open-source software, such as Bugzilla, then we make it easy to deploy and easy to maintain. There is no need to have in-house Linux experts and no need to spend countless hours installing and maintaining the software. We make it plug-and-play ready and we provide excellent technical support and training to ease transition to the new system”.

Since our founding in August 2002, the company has shipped six products that make solutions affordable by eliminating per-seat license charges and reducing maintenance and installation costs. BugStation™, ProjectStation™ and TicketTrak-Station™, server appliances, and their hosted counterparts, BugZone, ProjectZone and TicketTrakZone, deliver open-source software solutions. BugStation is the fastest and easiest method for using Bugzilla. ProjectStation with GForge, offers low-cost competition to industry giants such as VA Software and Collabnet. It provides collaborative software for version control, centralized communication and development. TicketTrak-Station, a trouble ticket system with OTRS (open-source Ticket Request System), integrates with Bugzilla to manage customer telephone calls and e-mails in one seamless flow of communication from customer support to engineering and back again.
