DENX's Powerful Embedded Linux Development Kit (ELDK) Available in AMCC's New PowerPC 440EP Evaluation Kit

Monday, 4 July 2005

DENX Software Engineering, a leading developer of software tools, today announced the inclusion of its Embedded Linux Development Kit ( ELDK Release 3.1.1 ) in Applied Micro Circuits Corporation's ( AMCC ) [NASDAQ:AMCC] PowerPC® 440EP evaluation kit. The DENX Embedded Linux Development Kit provides a complete and powerful software development environment for embedded and real-time systems. All components of the ELDK are available for free with complete source code under GPL or other free software licenses.

One of the most comprehensive development kits available in the market today, AMCC's 440EP evaluation kit accelerates customers' time-to-market with resources including, a custom-designed evaluation board, sample applications, system-level benchmarks and hardware design files. To assist customers in selecting the optimum development environment for their 440EP-based projects, evaluation versions of best-in-class software tools including DENX's ELDK, are included.

The Embedded Linux Development Kit includes:

Cross Development Tools ( Compiler, Assembler, Linker etc. ) to develop software for the target system.
Native tools ( Shell, commands and libraries ) that will run on the target system.
Firmware that can easily be ported to new boards and processors.
A Linux kernel including all device drivers, board-support functions etc.
RTAI ( Real Time Application Interface ) Extension of the Linux kernel for systems requiring hard real-time responses.
SELF ( Simple Embedded Linux Framework ) as fundament to build run-time environments for your embedded systems.
"Having supported Linux on 400 series PowerPC processors for quite a while now, we welcome the opportunity to continue to support customers developing products with new AMCC processors" said Wolfgang Denk, owner-manager of DENX Software Engineering. "The ELDK, built and used for our own daily work, offers a complete framework of free software to quickly develop sophisticated applications. Our customers appreciate not only that they can use it at zero cost, but that the source code is also available for free."

"The 440EP evaluation kit has the right mix of tools necessary to evaluate the 440EP processor and to aid our customers in the rapid development of their 440EP-based products," aid Charlie Ashton, director of PowerPC software at AMCC. "We are pleased to offer DENX's powerful Embedded Linux Development Kit for customers needing to evaluate the optimum development environment for their products."
