DOTSTER ADDS WINDOWS PLATFORM TO ITS VIRTUAL PRIVATE SERVER (VPS) WEB HOSTING SERVICES
Tuesday, 2 January 2007 Dotster, Inc., one of the world's largest ICANN-accredited domain registration and web hosting companies, announces the addition of three new Windows-based packages to its robust Virtual Private Server (VPS) offering. As one of the first companies to offer both Windows-based and Linux VPS web hosting, Dotster continues its efforts to accommodate all of its customers' needs, including the growing community of developers working with ASP.NET 1.1 and 2.0 code. Dotster is now making available to this discerning group the Windows platform as well as the best-of-breed hosting features unveiled in its first VPS launch. Unlike standard shared hosting, VPS offerings do not force multiple users to share a single file system. VPS delivers the benefits of a private environment without the cost of a dedicated server, including completely independent operating systems, web servers, mail servers, and software instances. This low-cost route to running multiple custom applications and programming language versions gives developers the competitive advantage of fully functioning private servers without the burden of infrastructure investment. Most importantly, by offering both Windows and Linux VPS packages, Dotster provides developers with a comprehensive set of services for all of their programming requirements. "We are very pleased to be one of the first hosting companies to offer a true Windows-based VPS solution," states Clint Page, Chief Executive Officer for Dotster. "With this addition, Dotster offers the developer community a high-value, low-cost virtual private server with all the benefits of the Windows platform including ASP.NET from the hosting provider they already trust." Similar to its Linux VPS packages, Dotster's VPS plans for Windows are packed with high-end features that still meet the market demand for low prices. Dotster is launching three Windows-based VPS plans with prices starting at $59.95 per month. The plans feature disk space ranging from 10 GB to 50 GB, bandwidth ranging from 250 GB to 750 GB, and 1, 2, or 8 dedicated IP addresses. Hosting for 30 domains is included in all the packages for no additional charge. Customers can upgrade their packages to host 100 domains for $3.75 per month or unlimited domains for only $7.50 per month. Other upgrade packages are also available to provide VPS users anti-virus software, anti-spam services, and a robust application repository. All of Dotster's VPS plans for Windows provide administrator access and are powered by Virtuozzo technology, giving customers the ability to reboot their server independently. Virtuozzo partitions physical servers into virtual private servers, each with its own administrator access, users, IP addresses, memory, processes, files, applications, system libraries, and configuration files. Controlling the Virtuozzo platform is the industry-leading control panel Plesk for Windows. Through a web-based interface, Plesk allows VPS customers to set up and manage multiple websites, DNS entries, email accounts, and MySQL databases (all of the plans include unlimited email accounts and MySQL databases). Also included is support for Microsoft SQL Server, Terminal Server Access, and Microsoft Access files. All plans include full control over Windows 2003 services including Internet Information Server and user management. Customers can compare all of the new plans online at http://www.dotster.com/hosting/vps/win_compare.
