Frozen Assets Cold Storage Goes Live with Headwater's Freight Logix TMS in Complex Transportation Brokerage Application
Monday, 1 May 2006 CHICAGO, IL April 28, 2006 –- Frozen Assets Cold Storage, which launched its state-of-the-art public refrigerated warehouse in late 2004 under Headwater Technology Solutions' SmartEnterprise third party logistics management system (3PL), has now also gone live with Headwater's Freight Logix transportation management system (TMS) to manage its growing transportation brokerage activities, it was announced today by Vice President of Operations Gary Jones and Headwater Vice President Mel Mills. Frozen Assets Cold Storage operates a 250,000 square-foot, 7,000,000 cubic-foot facility that features an 18,000-pallet freezer, a 10,000-pallet-position cooler, and three -35 degree blast cells, each with space for 45 pallets, along with substantial ambient temperature storage for products such as dried meat specialties and wine. Its 48 truck bays open to a 40,000 square-foot refrigerated inbound-outbound dock. Currently operating at more than 85 percent of capacity, Frozen Assets provides transportation brokerage services through some 20 active carrier partners, utilizing Freight Logix to build and manage pooled loads, Less-Than-Truckload and Truckload shipments for regional and nationwide delivery. The Freight Logix software automates all activities associated with transportation and freight management from order entry through dispatch, rating, invoicing, driver and carrier settlement, and finance. Automatic population of fields within the system eliminates redundant data entry and reduces errors. It improves efficiency and profitability by managing and controlling revenue and costs for any segment of the transportation operation -- leg, trip, hour, truck, driver, lane, customer or any combination of segments. The Windows-based solution utilizes data from an integrated Peachtree accounting software package, but it also integrates seamlessly with the Linux/Unix-based SmartEnterprise system, enabling it to exchange data with SmartEnterprise for transparent updates as warehouse personnel enter orders and updates. It also enables the company to set up its own carrier profiles, including routes and rates, and to search the system for the best solution to any shipping scenario. «Freight Logix is comprehensive in its power and performance, but at the same time it is easy-to-use,» Jones said. «We operate a fairly complex transportation environment, so it is important that we can locate and enter data quickly and accurately. Freight Logix screens are comprehensive but not overpopulated or complicated, so they make it easy to build and manage loads no matter whether a truckload or a few pallets sharing a ride.» The Freight Logix solution now in place at Frozen Assets Cold Storage is comprised of five seats on the TMS platform, integrated email, integrated Peachtree accounting and financial software, integrated PC Miler, carrier and customer rating, and safety and compliance with task management. Freight Logix was the first transportation management system to combine LTL, TL, Pickup & Delivery (P&D) and Cartage functionality for asset-based, non-Asset-based and logistics operations in a single solution.
