Ingres 2006 Ranked Number One in 'Current Offering' Among Six Evaluated Open Source Databases

Sunday, 25 June 2006

Ingres Corporation today announced that its open source database -- Ingres 2006 -- was cited as a "Leader" in the Forrester Wave category of "Current Offering." Ingres was one of six select companies that Forrester invited to participate in its recently published 2006 Forrester Wave(TM) report "The Forrester Wave(TM): Open Source Databases, Q2 2006."(1)

Overall, Ingres had the top ranking or was tied for the top ranking in eight of the 17 distinct ranking sub-categories in the Forrester Wave, including:

-- Transaction processing

-- Data warehousing

-- Programmability

-- Database availability

-- Platforms

-- Product strategy

-- Training

-- Systems integrators and partners

Ingres also came in second in three sub-categories including: Data types and interfaces, Security, Tools, Services and support.

The Forrester Wave(TM): Open Source Databases, Q2 2006, Forrester Research, Inc., June 14, 2006 states: "Forrester believes that being an independent entity will help Ingres revive its focus and develop the much needed ecosystem to compete against MySQL. Ingres best suits customers that are looking for databases to meet high-volume transactions for OLTP applications and want to build small to midsize data warehouses." The report also states: "In 2005, the industry witnessed great momentum around open source databases -- from product enhancements, improved customer support, and large vendors joining the bandwagon."

"Forrester's report validates the shift toward open-source by enterprise companies," said Bill Maimone, senior vice president of worldwide engineering for Ingres Corp. "For companies considering an open-source database strategy, Ingres 2006 is a proven enterprise alternative and we encourage companies and partners to try Ingres 2006 for their new applications and other database needs that require a full-featured database."
