International Labor Organization and AFL-CIO Offered Scholarships to Attend Global Information Operations Conference
Thursday, 29 December 2005Robert David STEELE Vivas, CEO of OSS.Net, has announced the granting of 50 scholarships to the International Labor Organization (ILO), and a separate 50 for the AFL-CIO, for labor representatives to attend the Global Information Operations Conference that will take place in Washington, D.C. from 17-19 January 2006.
"I have been energized," Steele says, "by the emergence of 'collective intelligence' as a new foundation for labor unions and organizations. I truly believe that public intelligence, what some call Open Source Intelligence (OSINT), will restore the balance between labor, capital, land, managers, and owners.
"There is no substitute for intelligent flexible human beings. Unfortunately, labor unions have lost heavily to predatory immoral capitalism reinforced by corrupt government officials and mercenary elites. It is time for labor to rise again, using knowledge applied in a non-violent but comprehensive manner, to restore dignity and a living wage to all workers.
"C.K. Prahalad has taught us all with his wisdom regarding 'The Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid,' but we can also apply this wisdom to all those who are on salary from the working poor to the middle class. Every occupational field needs to organize employees, inform employees, and empower labor leaders with the facts.
"Multinational corporations are notorious for keeping multiple sets of books, for import-export tax fraud, for bribery, and for unethical business practices against labor.
"Today the Internet, the cell phone, the Wiki page, and the emergence of new accelerated forms of open source information processing, visualization, and sharing, are all potentially capable of putting labor back in control of the work environment.
"It is now possible for labor to overcome corporate secrecy, and to bring pressure to bear directly on all stakeholders through the use of information, not only to communicate substance, but to know precisely whom to influence and how.
"Labor leaders must understand OSINT and what it can do for them." Steele says. "Since labor is cash-constrained, our group has agreed to subsidize conference participation (not travel) by 50 AFL-CIO labor representatives, and an additional 50 from around the world to be identified by the ILO. Additional participants will be welcomed at a 50% discount. "Complete details on this event are at http://www.oss.net/IOP."
