JetBrains Announces Winning Authors of 'IntelliJ IDEAL Plugin' Contest
Saturday, 30 December 2006 JetBrains s.r.o., creators of intelligent, productivity-enhancing applications, today announced the winners of it's first ever IntelliJ IDEAL Plugin development contest. Launched September 1, 2006, developers participating in the contest created extension plugins for the company's flagship Java IDE (Integrated Development Environment) IntelliJ IDEA for the opportunity to win cash and software prizes valued at over $25,000 (US). Over 60 valid entries were submitted for judging by JetBrains senior engineers and managers. "We are very pleased with the response to our first-ever plugin contest," said JetBrains CEO Sergey Dmitriev. "It not only helped the Java development community benefit from the new and enhanced functionality, but showed all the power and opportunities that IntelliJ IDEA's Open API can provide." All contest entries, regardless of whether or not they won a prize, have joined the ranks of hundreds of popular IntelliJ IDEA extensions available in the IntelliJ IDEA Plugin Repository at http://plugins.intellij.net/. All entries are free software published under Apache or BSD open source licenses. Of the more than sixty entries, five plugins were awarded the following cash prizes: Prize Plugin Awarded Prize Description First Prize DBHelper -- A productivity $5000 cash tool to help developers work with databases inside IntelliJ IDEA. Second Prize 1 IntelliLang -- provides $2000 cash annotation based language injection and pattern validation, and more. Second Prize 2 IntelliME J2ME Plugin -- $2000 cash facilitates development of mobile applications with IntelliJ IDEA Team Leader's IntelliLang -- this second $1000 cash Choice prize winner was also the favorite of IntelliJ IDEA development team leader Maxim Shafirov. Coolest Idea Key Promoter -- shows users $1000 cash how to easily perform any action via the keyboard In addition to cash awards, the authors of the prize-winning plugins receive packages of free software from JetBrains and other sponsoring vendors which vary according to the prize awarded.
