Liberty Alliance Announces 'Open Source Identity for the Web 2.0 Era' Webcast November 29
Wednesday, 29 November 2006 Liberty Alliance, the global identity consortium working to build a more trusted Internet for consumers, governments and businesses worldwide, today announced the public webcast "Open Source Identity for the Web 2.0 Era" taking place on Wednesday, November 29 at 8:00am US PST. This event is open to anyone interested in learning about open source single sign-on identity systems and how the interoperability, privacy and security capabilities of SAML 2.0 can benefit many of today's Web 2.0 applications. The webcast presentation will be hosted by Pat Patterson, member of the Liberty Alliance Technology Expert Group and federation architect with Sun Microsystems. The event will provide an overview of the open source projects in and around identity with specific focus on OpenSSO, an open source project that implements identity federation and secure Web services, and Project Lightbulb, a sub-project of OpenSSO that implements a SAML 2.0 service provider in the PHP language. With a step-by-step presentation and real world demonstration, Patterson will illustrate how a simple PHP application can be SAML 2.0-enabled in just a few minutes. A Q and A will follow. "Liberty Alliance regularly holds global deployment workshops and webcasts to allow developers and organizations to leverage the experience Liberty members have in successfully building and deploying interoperable and non- proprietary identity solutions," said George Goodman president of the Liberty Alliance management board and director of the Platform Capabilities Lab at Intel. "The November 29th Liberty Alliance webcast will provide open source developers and the Web 2.0 community with new opportunities for incorporating SAML 2.0 functionality into a variety of user-centric Web-based applications."
