MySQL Documentation and Books Available in OSofts ThoutReader-TM
Thursday, 9 December 2004OSoft, Inc., a leading provider of open source documentation solutions, today announced it has become an Authorized Partner for MySQL, the world’s most popular open source database. Through that partnership, OSoft will provide MySQL documentation in OSoft’s ThoutReader format, an open source documentation platform that allows software developers to organize all of their open source documentation, manuals, and reference books into one standard searchable format.
In addition to the MySQL documentation, four books from MySQL Press; MySQL Tutorial, MySQL Administrator’s Guide, MySQL Language Reference, and MySQL Certification Study Guide will be converted into the ThoutReader format and made available for downloading at osoft.com. OSoft also offers most open source documentation and top-selling open source reference books from Wiley Publishers, No Starch Press, Manning Publications, and Pearson Technology in the ThoutReader format.
“There are overwhelming amounts of open source resource materials available to the developer,” states Mark Carey, OSoft President, “but the content is in different formats and different locations, making information hard to find when, where, and how you need it. The ThoutReader adds convenience and value to new and existing content by allowing developers to browse, search, bookmark, and append all their open source documentation as well as open source reference books - from one program, at the same time - even off-line.”
”OSoft’s ThoutReader format is a significant step forward for developer productivity,” said Mika Asikainen, MySQL's Partner Manager. “We are proud to welcome OSoft into the MySQL partner program -- and to offer the MySQL community the option of downloading our documentation and books in the ThoutReader format.”
The ThoutReader is a cross-platform application and supports multiple languages. OSoft also provides ThoutCreator tools, which allow developers to author new content or translate existing content that can be published in the ThoutReader format. The ThoutReader and ThoutCreator tools are distributed free and are available at www.osoft.com. Says Carey, “If the content is free, we provide it free.”
Availability MySQL documentation in the ThoutReader format is now available and can be linked from http://dev.mysql.com/doc/ or directly from www.osoft.com.
