MySQL Gets Graphic With DB Toolset
Sunday, 12 December 2004MySQL AB, developer of the world's most popular open source database, has announced the general availability of a set of graphical query and administration tools designed to make life easier for MySQL(R) database developers, DBAs and users
The new MySQL Query Browser and MySQL Administrator are available for download now from the MySQL Developer Zone at http://dev.mysql.com/.
"MySQL has always had a great reputation for making relational database server technology easy to use. Now with the release of our graphical Query Browser and Administrator tools, we are delivering open source technology to an even larger audience of corporate and community users," said Zack Urlocker, vice president of Marketing for MySQL AB. "These tools provide users with a familiar, common look-and-feel for querying and managing their databases."
MySQL Query Browser
The MySQL Query Browser is a visual toolset for creating, executing and optimizing MySQL database queries in a graphical environment. It gives users an easier, more productive way to access and analyze information stored within MySQL database servers.
The MySQL Query Browser features an integrated set of drag-and-drop tools within a familiar, Web browser-like environment:
Query Toolbar and Database Explorer allow users to easily select tables and fields to query;
Table Editor allows users to visually create, modify and delete database tables;
Results Window where users can compare and manage multiple queries;
Object Browser enables users to manage their databases and bookmarks; Script Editor provides a robust interface for creating, editing, and debugging large SQL scripts. It features syntax highlighting and the ability to set breakpoints to facilitate SQL script debugging. MySQL Administrator
The MySQL Administrator is a powerful visual console that enables DBAs to easily manage and monitor their MySQL environments to gain significantly better insight into how their databases are working. For the first time, an intuitive graphical user interface can handle MySQL database operations such as server configuration, user administration, replication status monitoring, backup/restore, and log views.
"The Administrator delivers unprecedented transparency to MySQL database administration," said Adam Majer, president of Galactica Software, an independent software vendor (ISV) based in Lockport, MB, Canada. "With these tools, efficient database server administration and monitoring isn't as much of an art form. Now all types of MySQL users have easy access to the advanced performance and reliability features previously only known by the experts."
Platforms and Pricing
The MySQL Query Browser and MySQL Administrator are available now for the Linux and Windows operating systems.
All MySQL database software is available under a dual licensing model. Developers and organizations can choose between an open source (GPL) or a commercial MySQL license. A commercial license of the MySQL Administration Suite bundle (MySQL Query Browser + MySQL Administrator) is priced at (US) $295 per developer/user.
