Newest Release of Avocent Management Software Integrates with Cyclades Console Managers
Thursday, 6 April 2006 Avocent Corporation (NASDAQ: AVCT) today announced the integration of the Cyclades ACS console management appliances into the Avocent DSView® 3 management software solution -- furthering our industry leading solutions for data center management. The integration is an advantage for customers who want a single graphical user interface to access and control their data center appliances anywhere in the world. The software will be available beginning April 12. "We are pleased to provide integration between the Avocent and Cyclades product lines so quickly after finalizing the combination, ensuring our customers can take immediate advantage of our full line of best-of-breed solutions," said Dave Perry, executive vice president, Avocent Corporation. The integration also includes the Cyclades KVM/net and KVM/netPlus KVM over IP switches, and comes as part of a DSView 3 software update that includes key customer benefits such as more security and third-party in-band tool access. Customers requiring higher encryption levels can now leverage AES encryption, the highest standard adopted by the U.S. government, and RSA SecurID two-factor authentication. Incorporating these additional security components into DSView 3 software gives administrators more power to control access to mission-critical data. Also integrated is access to third party in-band administrative tools, complete with automated failover to Avocent's out-of-band tools and simplifying how IT users can remotely control data center equipment. For example, IT staff who prefer to use Microsoft Terminal Services using RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol), or VNC (Virtual Network Computing) to connect to servers can do so through the DSView 3 software interface. Should those tools fail DSView 3 software will either auto connect to a KVM port connection, or notify the user that an out-of-band connection needs to be made. Failures and failovers are documented in the software's event log for easy reporting for adherence to corporate security policies and government security regulations. DSView 3 management software is compatible with Wintel, Sun Solaris and Novell SuSE servers as well as Red Hat Linux operating systems. It is the only IT manageability software solution with a hub and spoke architecture featuring a fully redundant, replicating database system. Users securely authenticate to a central management hub server or one of up to 15 mirrored spoke servers if the primary server is unavailable. This allows for real-time updates and load balancing across multiple sites.
