Novell SLES9 to Desktop S2D-TM- New Linux Terminal Services Distribution

Sunday, 12 December 2004

Lumen Software has announced the release of its new line of
"maintenance free" Linux terminal services solutions, S2D(TM) for Novell's SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 (SLES9). This is the first terminal service bundle of its kind created for SLES 9, Novell's EAL 4+ security rated operating system.

Lumen Software is a long time supporter and contributor of the Linux LTSP project and the new S2D(TM) solutions continue the utilization of this project. The new S2D line of solutions provide the same functionality as Lumen's proven "maintenance free" EzThin product offering only with better security and enhanced management capabilities possible through Novell's
SLES 9 and Lumen's new suite of applications.

Further validation of Lumen Software's S2D(TM) solution can be found in the recent approval of this solution by the state of Missouri's eMINTS program. This is a state-wide classroom learning lab solution which eMINTS has been testing through a pilot for over a year.

Novell's K-12 Strategist, David Brower said, "This is a significant achievement by Lumen Software. They are a Novell partner at many levels and we have been very impressed with their products and services. This further confirms Novell's commitment to providing cost effective solutions to the K-12 market and beyond."

"We are always looking for partners that bring differentiating solutions that complement Novell's commitment to Open Source," adds Juan Carlos Cerrutti, Novell's VP & Area General Manager. "Lumen's continued commitment to developing and delivering robust solutions for the K-12, Financial, and Retail markets once again reinforces that commitment by delivering a truly
compelling solution."

Lumen Software's Integration Services Group also provides customers with a full range of integration and consulting services including integration with Active Directory, eDirectory, UNIX, etc. With their expertise in Linux compatibility, Lumen also addresses software compatibility issues.

"For us, this rounds out the Linux Desktop offerings that customers have been requesting," commented Ted Lymer, Marketing and Sales Director for Lumen. Lymer went on to say, "With Novell's recent release of Novell Linux Desktop (NLD) and now our server based version S2D, we can provide a complete solution that rivals any solution available today."

Don Keeler further added, "Users in most organizations require both a desktop version for the power users and a server based version for limited task users, such as students in education, tellers in banks, call centers, and so on. We have done extensive work on a wide-range of hardware from Pentium I's to Macintosh systems, thus protecting the technology investment of our customers now and in the future. This truly rounds out the Linux desktop
ecosystem needs from both an organization and user perspective."
