o*rev Launches Open Source Consulting Network
Tuesday, 7 June 2005o*rev, an enterprise open source consulting firm, announced its launch today under the direction of veteran Internet technologist and respected open source advocate, Raven Zachary. The company will focus on helping organizations fully benefit from the use of open source technology through access to information, ideas, and resources provided by open source experts.
o*rev is in the process of building a global network of open source professionals. This global network will comprise a virtual workforce, assembled on a project basis, and directed by the core o*rev team, to provide a wide range of open source solutions.
"The goal of o*rev is to help organizations with the acquisition and management of open source technology," said Zachary. "We believe that open source has advantages over traditional IT solutions, including greater control and cost savings. Our team has solid experience advising businesses on the selection, use, and management of open source technology."
Zachary is also the Senior Technical Editor & Consulting Industry Analyst for Enterprise Open Source Journal (EOSJ), a new magazine covering the emergence of open source solutions in the enterprise. He currently serves on advisory boards for EOSJ and JBoss.
Zachary has been using open source technology to help businesses for over ten years. Prior to forming o*rev, he was Director of Internet Technology for La Quinta Inns, where he implemented a fully open source ecommerce solution. In 1998, Zachary was the co-founder of The Communicator for Rhapsody Project, an effort to bring the open source Netscape browser (now called Mozilla) to the Rhapsody Operating System (now called Mac OS X).
"Many organizations would consider using open source if they had a clear understanding of how to plan for and implement the right solution for their needs," said Zachary. "o*rev has the talent and experience to be the trusted open source advisor in making a smooth transition, one free of costly trial and error."
o*rev's service offerings include business and technical consulting, research, technology evaluation, project management, community involvement, staffing, and development. More information on the company and its services is available at www.orev.com.
