OSS CEO Announces Lifetime Achievement Awards in Open Source Intelligence, and Also Golden Candle Awards for Recent Endeavors

Monday, 16 January 2006

WASHINGTON, Jan. 14 -- Robert David STEELE Vivas, CEO of OSS.Net, the principal international proponent for Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) since 1988, a period of eighteen years, announced today the awards to be presented 17 January 2006, at the Global Information Conference that takes place annually.

"With the appointment of an Assistant Director of National Intelligence for Open Source (ADDNI/OS), our eighteen year battle to get the U.S. Government to focus on OSINT is over. We respectfully defer to the ADDNI/OS henceforth, as the highest authority in America on this matter.

"On 17 January 2006, at the Sheraton Premier in Tysons Corner, twelve individuals will be honored for their lifetime achievements in OSINT, and an additional fifteen will receive Golden Candles for their recent accomplishments. These awards go back to 1992, and require twenty seven linear feet to print out. The detailed list of recipients and their citations can be viewed at http://tinyurl.com/5mbjt.

"Over 25,000 individuals are associated with the Golden Candle Society, over 7,500 have been directly trained by Robert Steele and OSS.Net, and within those, the several hundred that have been honored by the international committee with this recognition, are the true OSINT pioneers. Mrs. Kathy Steele, a CIA employee and wife to Robert Steele, is the only non- practitioner, and was selected by the international committee for her role in supporting her husband, who would not have survived all these years without her.

"The future of the human species is at risk. Terrorism is the least of our problems. OSINT, subordinate to the larger concept of Information Operations (IO), and dedicated to Information Peacekeeping (IP), is a force for both deterring conflict and creating stabilizing indigenous wealth. Those of us that are ethical see OSINT as a solution to global problems. Those of us that are unethical see OSINT as a means of garnering personal profit and cheating the client.

"The ethical practitioners of OSINT, from over 20 countries, will be gathering 16-20 January 2006, at the Sheraton Premier in Tysons Corner, Virginia, to honor those receiving awards, and to openly, legally, and ethically exchange best practices. Complete information is at http://www.oss.net/IOP. Scholarships available for diplomats and non-profit personnel.
