PGI High-Performance 64-bit Compilers and Tools for AMD and Intel Processors Integrated Into HP HPTC Solutions
Saturday, 11 June 2005The Portland Group(TM), a wholly owned subsidiary of STMicroelectronics (NYSE:STM) , today announced that its PGI(R) Fortran, C and C++ compilers and development tools will be integrated into HP's popular line of HP ProLiant high-performance technical computing (HPTC) workstations, servers and clustered platforms based on 32/64-bit Intel(R) Pentium(R)/Xeon(TM) and AMD Opteron(TM) processors.
The PGI compilers and tools are used by scientists and engineers to build and run high-performance computing applications in areas such as weather forecasting, geophysical sciences, structural modeling, aerodynamic simulation and related fields. Highly optimized for the processors powering the fastest growing science and engineering hardware platforms, the PGI compilers provide a comprehensive set of time-tested production-quality development tools.
"HP's decision to include The Portland Group compilers and tools in their software portfolio means scientists and engineers purchasing high-performance HP systems running Linux and Windows can now easily include a set of widely-used high-quality 64-bit Fortran, C and C++ compilers and development tools," said Douglas Miles, director, The Portland Group. "HP's ongoing commitment to leadership in the technical server market and The Portland Group's longstanding and growing commitment to compilers and tools for HPTC make this a great fit for both companies."
"A key strength HP offers scientists and engineers is the option to purchase a complete turn-key HPTC solution, such as our Unified Cluster Portfolio," said Bruce Toal, director of marketing, High Performance Computing Division, HP. "An important part of that strategy is our ability to offer a stable and validated software development stack. The PGI compilers and tool suite is a recognized cross-platform standard in the industry for high-performance technical computing. We're pleased to be able to offer them as part of our complete HPC solution."
The PGI compilers are offered in three product configurations: PGI Workstation for individual users, PGI Server for engineering workgroups, and the PGI CDK(TM) Cluster Development Kit for use on HPTC cluster systems. Each of these suites includes the PGF77(R), PGF95(TM), PGHPF(R), PGCC(R), and PGC++(TM) compilers, the PGDBG(R) graphical parallel debugger, and the PGPROF(R) graphical parallel performance profiler. The PGI compilers and tools are fully parallel-enabled, with support for native compilation, profiling and debugging of OpenMP parallel, thread-parallel or MPI-parallel distributed applications. The release 6.0 versions of the PGI compilers and tools include optimizations specific to both the AMD Opteron and Intel Xeon EM64T processors under Linux and Windows.
