Scholarships Offered to Five Main Religions to Attend Global Information Operations Conference
Saturday, 31 December 2005Robert David STEELE Vivas, CEO of OSS.Net, has announced the granting of 100 scholarships to be equally divided among Catholic, Jewish, Hindu, Muslim, and Protestant representatives, to attend the Global Information Operations Conference that will take place in Washington, D.C. from 17-19 January 2006.
"I have been energized," Steele says, "by the emergence of 'collective intelligence' as a new foundation for human rights. I truly believe that public intelligence, what some call Open Source Intelligence (OSINT), will restore the balance between individuals and organizations.
"There is no substitute for intelligent flexible human beings. Unfortunately, religions have lost heavily to predatory immoral capitalism reinforced by corrupt government officials and mercenary elites. It is time for religion to rise again, using knowledge applied in a non-violent but comprehensive manner, to restore dignity and a living wage to all adherents. The Catholics had the right idea with liberation theology.
"C.K. Prahalad has taught us all with his wisdom regarding 'The Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid,' but we can also apply this wisdom to all those who are on salary from the working poor to the middle class.
"Multinational corporations are notorious for keeping multiple sets of books, for import-export tax fraud, for bribery, and for unethical business practices against labor. As President Jimmy Carter says in his recent book, 'Our Endangered Values,' it is the gap between rich and poor that threatens us all the most.
"Today the Internet, the cell phone, the Wiki page, and the emergence of new accelerated forms of open source information processing, visualization, and sharing, are all potentially capable of making religions 'intelligent' and of providing actionable legal ethical 'decision-support' to individual adherents.
"It is now possible for every church, temple, and mosque to become a node for legal ethical open source information collection, processing, and exploitation. Truth and reconciliation commissions will be essential at local as well as national levels.
"Religious leaders need to understand OSINT and what it can do for them." Steele says. "To nurture religions understanding of OSINT, our group has agreed to subsidize conference participation (not travel) by 100 religious representatives. Additional participants will be welcomed at a 50% discount. "Complete details on this event are at http://www.oss.net/IOP."
