SCO Exhibits MySQL on SCO OpenServer and Digital Services Leadership at Retail Industry's Largest Show
Tuesday, 17 January 2006 National Retail Federation (Booth 2425) -- The SCO Group, Inc. ("SCO") (Nasdaq: SCOX), a leading provider of UNIX(R) software technology for distributed, embedded and network-based systems, today reaffirmed its commitment to the retail industry with new and innovative solutions at the annual National Retail Federation (NRF) show. SCO solutions exhibited at NRF include MySQL Network Edition running on SCO OpenServer 6 and the near commercial releases of SCO's suite of Me Inc. digital services. In addition to Me Inc. digital services, SCO announced digital services technology for creating, managing, and customizing digital services for business, government and consumer users. NRF is the largest gathering of the retail industry and SCO is one of the leading providers of IT solutions to the retail market. Some of SCO's worldwide retail and restaurant customers include Bricolage, Carrefour, Costco, CSK Auto, CVS Pharmacies, Dixons, FamilyMart, Host Marriott, Kroger, McDonald's, Metro Group, Orchard Supply Hardware, Radio Shack, Tradeka, Walgreens, Yum! Brands, Zales, and many others. "The retail industry has embraced SCO technology over the years because of our non-stop product reliability that allows retailers to focus on their business without worrying about the technology that's running their business," said Tim Negris, senior vice president of marketing, The SCO Group, Inc. "We're taking this reliability and extending it to other areas of our business that will help retailers to be successful. Retailers are gravitating to the fast-growing MySQL database because it is known for scaling out across customer environments including distributed and networked systems across retail and branch offices. For retailers looking to implement MySQL, SCO OpenServer 6 is the ideal platform for the retail environment." A new, future growth area for the company is around Me Inc. digital services for smart handheld devices, and SCO is showing several of these at NRF. Me Inc. includes services that allow companies and organizations to communicate quickly and effectively. The Me Inc. Shout service provides the ability to send text and audio messages to small groups or thousands of individuals at once, while the Vote digital service provides instant polling capabilities for quick feedback by customers, employees and other audiences. Shout and Vote are currently being developed for Palm Treo devices with support for other mobile devices available in the near future. While Shout and Vote are currently created and sent by Palm Treo devices, their communications can be received in a variety of ways including other Treos, computer desktops and many other handheld devices. SCO's digital services technology also provides the ability to build and customize digital services for specific customer needs across a wide variety of industries. One such digital service solution being shown at NRF includes a mobile order entry system for the wholesale foods industry, developed in conjunction with SCO Authorized Reseller, ASK Technologies, and their customer, Musco Food Corporation, an Italian food distributor with hundreds of customers in the New York City area. The mobile order entry system will enable Musco and other food wholesalers to conduct their business in a faster and more efficient way by enabling their mobile sales force to enter orders and check inventory status in real time from the field. The result for Musco will be better customer service resulting from faster order processing, fewer order errors and greater customer satisfaction.
