Setting up an Internet server on Mandriva 2006
Wednesday, 21 December 2005A new, simplified but detailed tutorial on how to set up a Mandriva 2006 Free Edition-based server for Web and other Internet services has been published on HowtoForge.com. The server offers all services needed by ISPs and hosters (Web server SSL-capable), mail server (with SMTP-AUTH and TLS!), DNS server, FTP server, MySQL server, POP3/IMAP, Quota, Firewall, etc.), reports author Falko Timme.
"This is a 'copy & paste' how-to," Timme writes. "The easiest way to follow this tutorial is to use a command line client/SSH client and simply copy and paste the commands. It also has 39 screenshots. This makes it very easy even for Linux newbies to follow it."
Upon completion, the Web server will comprise the following specific components: - Web server: Apache 2.0.x
- Postfix Mail Server (easier to configure and has a shorter history of security holes than Sendmail, Timme said)
- DNS Server: BIND9
- FTP Server: proftpd
- POP3/IMAP servers
- Webalizer for web site statistics
