Slim Devices Introduces SqueezeNetwork Online Service
Saturday, 12 March 2005Slim Devices, Inc. today announced the launch of SqueezeNetwork, a new online service free to owners of the new Squeezebox2 network music player. SqueezeNetwork provides anytime access to thousands of Internet radio stations, plus a variety of online services even when the user's computer is off. Details about the service can be found at Slim Devices' web site (www.slimdevices.com).
"It's a whole new way to think about network music players," said Sean Adams, CEO and founder of Slim Devices. "Up to now, you needed your computer to be on to listen to Internet radio. Now, when you connect a Squeezebox2 player to your home network, you can hear music right out of the box. It couldn't be any easier.
"SqueezeNetwork represents a major strategic initiative for Slim Devices," added Adams. "Over the next few months, Slim Devices will add music and community services which will significantly expand the functionality of Squeezebox2. It creates new ways for users to share their passion for music and musicians."
Key features of SqueezeNetwork:
-- Always-on Internet Radio - Listen to your favorite Internet radio streams from award-winning providers such as Live365™, SHOUTcast™, and radioio™. -- Always-on Alarm - Wake up to any of 80 environmental sounds, musical segments, or Internet radio stations. -- Always-on News Ticker - View RSS news feeds from news providers and web sites directly on the Squeezebox2 display. -- Online Identity - Share favorites and Internet radio settings across multiple Squeezebox2 players. -- Community - Share playlists, song and radio station popularity ratings. Participate in forums and download scores of plug-ins on the SqueezeNetwork web site. "As with the development of SlimServer, Slim Devices' open source software, the community will play an integral role in shaping the features and functions of SqueezeNetwork," said Dean Blackketter, Slim Devices' CTO. "We're excited to see the ideas they will create." SqueezeNetwork will be available exclusively to Squeezebox2 owners free of charge.
