Sophos Creates Canadian Subsidiary to Specifically Address Security Needs of Canadian Organizations
Saturday, 21 May 2005Sophos, a global leader in network security, announced today that it has formally instituted the company's Canadian subsidiary, which is designed to capitalize on the geography's strong demand for effective policy-based network security products. To head up the Canadian subsidiary efforts, Sophos also announced the promotion of Mark Attisha to area vice president, Sophos Canada.
Sophos has been based in British Columbia since it acquired Vancouver- based ActiveState in 2003, so it has catered to the Canadian market for some time. The creation of a new Canadian subsidiary recognizes the country's different buying patterns and ensures personalized attention to this market.
Mark Attisha brings more than twenty years of experience in the information technology industry to his role. He joined Sophos in 2004 and served as director of technical services, managing both the professional services group and the Canadian sales engineering team. Prior to joining Sophos, he held senior roles at Oracle Corporation Canada and DMR Group Inc. (Fujitsu Consulting).
"I'm very excited to be leading up the efforts in Canada," said Mark Attisha, area vice president, Sophos Canada. The business climate here demands a focused effort from its technology providers. Our requirements are significantly different from those in the United States -- we have two languages, different regulations and different organizational structures."
Sophos also announced the appointment of Bruce McDonald to the newly created role of vice president of operations for North America and general manager of Sophos's Vancouver office.
McDonald has been with Sophos since 2004 and brings 15 years of support operations and sales management experience. Previously, he worked in senior management positions with Seanix Technology, and held vice president of support and operations roles at PCSupport.com and ACCPAC International.
In addition, Sophos has appointed Jim Zadra to the position of vice president of finance, North America. He will continue in his role as the senior financial executive for Sophos's North American operations, and the newly created Canadian subsidiary, in addition to having greater responsibilities for general management and planning. Zadra has more than a decade of finance and management experience and has been with Sophos since 2002. Prior to Sophos, he held senior financial positions with Deloitte & Touche, a leading Canadian investment bank and a publicly listed information technology company.
Sophos has gained considerable momentum in protecting organizations across Canada. The company has seen great success in the higher education sector with 14 of the major 17 Canadian universities using Sophos solutions including: University of British Columbia, Universite du Quebec a Chicoutimi, and the University of Toronto. Other Canadian customers include: BC Hydro, Pivotal Corporation, Magna, City of Richmond, Coast Capital Savings, and Edmonton Public Schools.
In addition to having a dedicated sales and management staff, Sophos Canada is supported by French and English-speaking technicians and a multi- lingual product set. The group, based in Vancouver, will have access to global and North American marketing resources.
