SourceLabs Raises the Bar on Open Source Dependability With New SASH Stack 1.1 for Java
Friday, 10 February 2006 SourceLabs, a Seattle-based provider of Dependable Open Source Systems and premium support services for enterprise IT organizations, today announced SourceLabs SASH Stack 1.1 for Java, an integrated Open Source software foundation that makes server-side Java development faster and easier than conventional J2EE programming. The SASH Stack integrates widely used Open Source application frameworks, including Apache Struts, Apache Axis, Spring Framework and Hibernate into a coherent, tested, supported software stack for enterprise applications, reducing the costs, risks and overall effort required to use this software in production applications. SourceLabs tested the SASH Stack with thoroughness and rigor not used before with Open Source Java software. The company used its CERT7 Test methodology, including a load test comprised of more than 54 million transactions over a period for nine days. All tests results and source code are available on the SWiK.NET Open Source community (http://www.swik.net) for comment and re-use. In the course of the testing process, SourceLabs discovered and patched multiple bugs and has contributed the patches to the relevant Open Source communities. A summary of these contributions can be found on SourceLabs website ( http://staging.sourcelabs.com/?sidemenu=1&page=software&sub=sash_patches ). The SourceLabs SASH Stack for Java makes server-side Java development more productive than conventional J2EE by integrating a lightweight web user interface framework, a highly dependable and interoperable web services stack, and easy and efficient database access. The stack is supported on the Oracle Fusion, BEA WebLogic, IBM Websphere, and Apache Tomcat application servers and Oracle's database management system. In a related separate announcement today, SourceLabs announced a joint distribution agreement with Oracle to provide enterprise customers with SASH for use on the Oracle 10g Application Server. Oracle joins leading Open Source developers WS02 and Interface 21 as a new SourceLabs partner. IT departments can deploy the SourceLabs SASH Stack with the same confidence and trust they place in traditional enterprise computing systems. The stack, along with all documentation, including tests, patches, downloadable repositories and integration notes, is available immediately, at no charge, on the SourceLabs web site -- http://www.sourcelabs.com. "This new release of SASH is the first Open Source offering that brings together sample applications, information and software updates, tools, tests and enterprise support subscriptions without a lock-in agenda," said Byron Sebastian, CEO of SourceLabs. "Over the years, we have been told that companies fear that Open Source may not be enterprise ready. Together with the tested Open Source libraries we distribute, SourceLabs subscription premium support services provide a complete enterprise solution that lets IT organizations deploy, with confidence, enterprise applications created with Open Source." Other new features of the new SourceLabs SASH Stack 1.1 for Java include: -- A new distribution mechanism based on Apache Maven that integrates directly into developers' build processes so that customers are assured that they are always using the most stable, tested versions of SASH libraries. -- Discovery and repair of multiple bugs through SourceLabs' CERT7 process, all of which have been back-ported to stable project branches for inclusion in SASH 1.1 and donated to the relevant open source communities. -- Rebuilding from source all dependencies in the SASH component libraries, including reconciliation of existing conflicts or circular references, to ensure absolute fidelity with source code. -- The Bug Daily Digest, a new report that gives users an early warning system on issues found in their Open Source software. The Bug Daily Digest consolidates and filters all new issues reported in the communities relevant to SASH and flags issues that may be notable to users. For enterprise IT organizations that are deploying the SourceLabs SASH Stack in demanding production conditions, SourceLabs offers premium support and maintenance subscriptions including 24-hour on-call support, hot fixes, critical security updates and ongoing maintenance through tested service packs. About SourceLabs SourceLabs, based in Seattle, Washington, provides the complete set of software integration, testing, support and maintenance services required to deliver dependable open source systems. The company's Dependable Open Source Systems vision proposes a new model for the software industry, one that frees software buyers from proprietary lock-in while delivering highly reliable software and support.
