SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop From Novell Named 'Best of Show' at LinuxWorld
Thursday, 24 August 2006 SUSE(R) Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 from Novell(R) was named "Best of Show" at the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo in San Francisco this week. In addition, SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop was named "Best Desktop Solution," and Novell AppArmor earned "Best Security Solution" honors. Part of the Linux Journal Product Excellence Awards, the awards distinguish product and service innovations at LinuxWorld. "We poured years of innovation into this product and the industry is taking note," said Nat Friedman, vice president of desktop engineering for Novell. "The creativity and hard work of our engineering team at Novell and our friends in the community have created a desktop that combines cool features with business sensibilities. AppArmor's unparalleled security functionality means that enterprises have a platform they can trust. These awards validate our heavy investment in innovation and our strategy of solving customer problems." These awards follow the "Best of Show" award won by the Novell-sponsored openSUSE(TM) project at April's LinuxWorld in Boston. Other Novell finalists at LinuxWorld San Francisco included SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for "Best Virtualization Solution" and "Best Integration Solution," and SUSE Linux 10.x (now named openSUSE) for "Best Open Source Solution." SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop delivers ease of use and innovative new features including integrated search, seamless plug-and-play, accelerated 3-D graphics and desktop effects, and a fully compatible office productivity suite through the Novell edition of OpenOffice.org 2.0, all at a list price that's a small fraction of the leading proprietary operating system and office suite alternatives. SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop is targeted at basic office workers and is suited for complete desktop replacements, retail point of service solutions, thin-client deployments and engineering workstations. Novell AppArmor is an application-level security service that protects customer systems and processes. With the open source AppArmor, customers can quickly and easily deploy powerful application security for both servers and desktops while reducing IT staff workload and lowering total cost of ownership. AppArmor helps customers rapidly develop and enforce security policies to protect infrastructure against attackers who seek and exploit application flaws. About Novell Novell, Inc.
