Syncsort Collaborates with NetApp to Further Simplify Disk-to-Disk Data Protection
Thursday, 20 July 2006 Syncsort Inc. today announced plans to work closely with Network Appliance, Inc. to further simplify the backup and recovery processes for customers pairing Syncsort Backup Express with a NetApp(R) NearStore(R) Virtual Tape Library (VTL) solution, a disk-based appliance that appears as a tape library. Syncsort's plans include Syncsort Backup Express integration with new NetApp NearStore VTL Shadow Tape technology, which NetApp introduced today in a separate announcement (http://www.netapp.com/news/press/news_rel_20060718). The full integration of the NetApp NearStore VTL with Shadow Tape technology and Syncsort solution will provide customers with disk-based data protection that seamlessly works with open systems data centers, and offer the superior speed and reliability of NetApp disk technologies. (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20000922/SYNCSORTLOGO ) Backup Express certified support of NetApp Shadow Tape technology on NetApp NearStore VTL systems means that customers will be able to reap the benefits of disk-based data protection combined with the ease of use of Backup Express administration for schedules, retentions, monitoring, and archive management. Additionally, Backup Express for NearStore VTL includes options for high-performance image snapshots and mission-critical application integration for SQL Server, Exchange, GroupWise, Oracle, DB2, and SAP. Based on tiered retention rules, the integration of Syncsort Backup Express and NetApp NearStore VTL with Shadow Tape technology will enable enterprise SAN customers to simplify data management and reduce backup and recovery times by introducing disk-based backup destinations that seamlessly combine the VTL backup cache and the physical tape archive in a way that is completely compatible with Syncsort Backup Express's catalog and management approach. The recovery and management options afforded customers by the planned Shadow Tape integration will automate the process and speed up recovery times. "The Syncsort and NetApp partnership brings innovative solutions to our customers that reduce the management complexity of their data center environments," said Patrick Rogers, vice president, Partners and Alliances Marketing at Network Appliance, Inc. "NetApp will continue to collaborate with Syncsort to provide data protection and disaster recovery solutions that optimize performance of existing environments-without disrupting ongoing business activities." "This development builds upon the companies' history together, which includes a long history of 'firsts' in NetApp technology support from Syncsort," commented Dan Regan, Syncsort's senior vice president. "The collaboration has resulted in NDMP for SAN, NetApp SnapVault(R), and Open Systems SnapVault (OSSV) software market offerings."
