TimeSys Introduces Linux Customization Solutions for Embedded Developers
Saturday, 14 May 2005TimeSys(R) Corporation, a leader in embedded Linux technologies and development tools, today introduced LinuxDepot(TM) and LinuxEngine(TM), new Linux Customization Solutions that enable developers to rapidly and easily customize any processor-optimized TimeStorm(R) Linux Development Kit (LDK) to meet the precise feature, footprint and hardware requirements of any embedded device.
LinuxDepot enables developers to further customize their TimeStorm LDK through access to a continuously updated Component Repository of kernel patches, drivers, root filesystem packages and toolchains. LinuxEngine speeds and simplifies delivery of a uniquely customized Linux platform through its intelligent, automated Embedded Linux Platform Builder.
"Linux has become an operating system of choice in the embedded device market, which is characterized by complex feature sets delivered in shrinking time-to-market windows," noted Stephen Balacco, embedded software analyst at market research firm Venture Development Corporation (VDC). "TimeSys is addressing the challenge of building Linux distributions with exacting feature requirements through an enablement model that speeds and simplifies the process developers use to customize Linux."
LinuxDepot and LinuxEngine are accessible through the TimeSys Network(TM), a secure, hosted infrastructure which includes a continuously evolving Component Repository, automated Embedded Linux Platform Builder and the knowledge and community of the Developer Exchange. The TimeSys Network infrastructure is also used by TimeSys in conjunction with the world's largest semiconductor vendors through the OnBoard Program(TM) to produce TimeStorm LDKs for a wide range of embedded processors and development platforms.
"Linux Customization Solutions enable developers to create custom Linux distributions as unique as their embedded devices," said Larry Weidman, president and CEO of TimeSys. "LinuxDepot is a single, continuously updated source for the components needed to tailor Linux, while LinuxEngine's sophisticated build system automates and significantly reduces the time and resources required to produce and maintain a complete custom Linux platform."
About Linux Customization Solutions for Embedded Developers
LinuxDepot is a comprehensive source of software and information that enables developers to rapidly customize and update their embedded Linux distribution and stay current with the latest open source components. LinuxDepot includes:
Component Repository, a continuously evolving source of kernel patches and drivers, updates for supported processor revisions and errata, over 200 source and pre-built binary root filesystem packages and a variety of pre-built toolchains.
Developer Exchange, a rich source of development information, knowledge base and community of TimeSys engineers and embedded developers.
TimeStorm Linux Verification Suite (LVS), an Eclipse-based framework and testware for locally testing and validating a customized Linux distribution.
LinuxEngine is an automated distribution creation and packaging system that can save months of development time by simplifying and speeding the assembly and integration of a custom Linux platform. LinuxEngine includes:
Embedded Linux Platform Builder, an intelligent, automated system that greatly simplifies the mechanics of assembling a custom platform through advanced features such as automated build assembly, dependency tracking and intelligent caching. Developers can select what they need from the Component Repository and add custom applications and package optimizations, which are submitted to the Embedded Linux Platform Builder and returned as a complete installable distribution that can be updated on demand to evolve throughout the project life cycle.
