TimeSys to Deliver Latest Linux Features for Intel® XScale® technology to OEMs
Wednesday, 23 March 2005TimeSys® Corporation, a leader in embedded Linux® technologies and development tools, today announced the availability of fully commercialized 2.6-based TimeStorm® Linux Development Kits ( LDKs ) which support Intel XScale-based I/O processors and the latest Intel-developed hardware optimizations. Intel I/O processors will be included in the TimeSys OnBoard Program( tm ), the embedded Linux industry's only comprehensive program for hosting, certifying, distributing and supporting commercialized custom Linux distributions.
The TimeSys OnBoard Program provides a vehicle for continuous delivery of the most advanced Linux features to customers and partners. Through the program, TimeSys rapidly packages, maintains and supports commercial TimeStorm LDKs with the latest feature enhancements developed by and with OnBoard Partners. TimeStorm LDKs from TimeSys include complete hardware-optimized embedded Linux distributions with ready-to-run target images ( kernel and root file system ) and the Eclipse 3.0-based TimeStorm Linux Development Suite® cross-development environment to facilitate application development, as well as kernel and device driver platform customization.
TimeSys to Deliver Commercial Linux Kits for Intel XScale I/O Processors Through the OnBoard Program, TimeSys will create 2.6-based TimeStorm LDKs for a broad subset of the Intel® XScale technology-based I/O processor line, which enables servers, workstations and storage subsystems to transfer data faster, reduce communication bottlenecks and improve overall system performance by offloading I/O processing functions from the host CPU.
TimeSys and Intel will use the OnBoard Program to maintain and update all existing TimeSys Linux Development Kits for Intel processors ( including new 2.6-based LDKs for the Intel® IOP321, IOP331, IOP332 and 80219 processors ). The companies will also jointly develop additional TimeStorm LDKs for future Intel I/O processors as they become available in 2005 and beyond.
"TimeSys introduced the OnBoard Program to rapidly integrate partner-developed Linux enhancements into complete distributions with developer tools and support," said Larry Weidman, president and CEO of TimeSys. "The Program is the latest example of our commitment to continuously bring the most advanced embedded Linux solutions to market."
"Development communities, such as the TimeSys OnBoard Program, enable developers to get products based on Intel XScale-based I/O processors to market quickly," said Dave Boehmer, director of Platform Applications and Engineering for Intel's Storage Components Division. "This type of community helps make the latest Linux enhancements from Intel available to OEMs worldwide in fully commercialized distributions from TimeSys."
