Turbolinux Signs Exclusive Agreement with SpecOps Labs to Distribute DAVID Software
Thursday, 22 September 2005Turbolinux (OSAKA: 3777), a global provider of Linux solutions, today announced that Turbolinux has signed an exclusive distribution agreement with SpecOps Labs, Inc., headquartered in the Philippines, to distribute DAVID(TM) software, a middleware that enables desktop machines operating on the Linux OS to run Windows(TM) applications.
DAVID uses a Windows application-capable common module (the David engine) to operate with different plug-in modules (David enabler) for every application. A file manager allows the user to easily install and use Windows-based applications on the Turbolinux operating system, including multimedia system software and popular applications such as Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, and Lotus Notes. Japanese input method and printing are also available. In addition, Turbolinux is planning to preinstall the software on its next desktop product to make the capability seamless.
"By allowing Windows applications to co-exist on a Linux system without any incongruity, the usage of Linux becomes easier," said Koichi Yano, president and COO of Turbolinux, Inc. "We expect that the adoption of Linux will be accelerated in both business and consumer markets with the introduction of this capability."
