Ubuntu Linux Wins Best Distribution at UK Linux and Open Source Awards 2005

Tuesday, 11 October 2005

Ubuntu Linux has won the prestigious "Best Linux/Open Source Distribution" award at this year's UK Linux and Open Source Awards, after the readership of Linux User & Developer voted for their favourite Linux Distribution.

In just under a year, Ubuntu has grown to be one of the most respected versions of Linux, being the most popular distribution on Distrowatch for over six months, as well as winning the inaugural Tux Magazine's Favourite Distribution award in September this year.

On receiving the award on the 6th October, Mark Shuttleworth thanked everyone involved, especially the many developers in the Debian community, without whom, Ubuntu would not have been possible.

With the new release of Ubuntu due soon, Canonical hope to take Ubuntu to even more people across the world, and, of course, win more awards.

More details of the Linux User and Developer awards can be found at http://www.linuxawards.co.uk/content/view/26/42/ and the Tux Magazine Awards can be found at http://www.tuxmagazine.com/node/1000151
