UltraBac Software Releases UBDR Pro v2.0 and UBDR Gold v2.0
Monday, 6 June 2005UltraBac Software (www.ultrabac.com) today released a significant update to both the Pro and Gold editions of UBDR, the company’s award-winning image-based disaster recovery software. UBDR Version 2.0 now includes P2V (physical to virtual) support for VMware servers, USB and FireWire storage devices, and Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).
UltraBac Disaster Recovery (UBDR) Pro and Gold use image-based backup and disaster recovery technology to provide lightning fast recovery for users of Windows servers and workstations. Both use UltraBac's ability to perform image backups, along with a Windows-based universal boot CD environment, to restore one or more disk partitions even when no operating system is available. UltraBac Gold includes additional enterprise features such as support for FTP, Tivoli Storage Manager, autoloader control, and 100 percent scripted restores for unassisted recoveries.
With the release of version 2.0, UBDR Pro and Gold can now restore the image of a failed server to a virtual environment. This new P2V capability provides organizations that experience a catastrophic hardware failure the ability to quickly recover a machine’s image, and emulate the restored hardware configuration virtually.
To restore a physical server to a VMware (NYSE:EMC) virtual server an administrator only needs to implement a host server, which can be Windows, or Linux based. After creating a new virtual environment, the administrator can then use UBDR Pro or UBDR Gold to boot into the recovery wizard. Quick and easy restores can be performed from tape, disk, UNC path, and USB/FireWire attached storage devices. Users can expect restore speeds of up to 3GB/minute with fast network connections or from local disk. Recovering to a virtual environment is automatic and requires no special setup or other considerations. Once a disaster recovery operation has been successfully performed and the restored machine is running within a virtual environment, administrators can then begin planning a physical migration to new hardware configuration if, and when, required.
With this new capability, UBDR Pro and UBDR Gold users may find that their requirement to maintain hardware spares, and/or servers, for disaster recovery purposes will be greatly diminished or even eliminated. UltraBac Software has integrated UBDR with VMware so that the entire restore process is automated and eliminates the requirement to purchase VMware’s extra-cost P2V Assistant, thereby reducing the required investment for this solution substantially.
“Innovation, reliability, and support have always been the cornerstones to our success against the much larger companies we compete against in our market; and our customers also appreciate that we listen to what they want," said Morgan Edwards, CEO and founder of UltraBac Software. "Implementing P2V technology, integrating Microsoft’s Volume Shadow Copy Service, and providing support for USB/FireWire storage devices will strengthen our position as an industry leader in backup and image-based disaster recovery." Integrating VSS with image technology provides UBDR users with a built-in operating system service that provides the utmost in open file backup protection. This new VSS functionality is available for Microsoft Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 users and creates consistent point-in-time copies of data known as shadow copies. UBDR Pro and Gold’s integration with VSS enables administrators to create an operating system based point-in-time snapshot of one or more partitions on a disk that form the backbone of any required disaster recovery operation.
Pricing for UBDR Pro starts from USD $595 per server with the ability to back up an unlimited number of workstations.
