Unisys and Novell Team to Expand Enterprise Linux
Sunday, 13 February 2005Unisys Corporation and Novell, Inc. today announces that Unisys has achieved Novell SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server (SLES) 9 certification on its Unisys ES7000 server line. Unisys is the only vendor to achieve SLES 9 certification for both 32-bit and 64-bit servers with up to 32 processors.
"The future of Linux is the enterprise," said Mike Dooner, Unisys Marketing & Alliances Manager ANZ. "We feel there is no company better positioned to drive Linux deeper into the world of real mission-critical computing than Unisys. We look forward to building upon this relationship with Novell as we expand the ecosystem around enterprise Linux, and scale the Linux environment to even greater heights."
Unisys customers will be able to purchase licenses of Novell SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 with the full line of Intel-based Unisys ES7000 servers, from four to 32 processors, running in both 32-bit and 64-bit Intel environments. Through the Unisys 3D-Visible Enterprise (3D-VE) methodology, Unisys consultants are already helping organisations understand the implications of business decisions from the corporate boardroom to the heart of the enterprise data centre. The many benefits of 3D-VE are now available to customers choosing to implement a Novell based solution and realize the economic benefits of standardising on Linux with the ES7000.
"Combining the scalability and performance power of Novell's SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server with Unisys deep experience in mission-critical computing gives our customers a compelling option for deploying Linux at the core of the enterprise," said Hal Bennett, vice president of business development, Novell. "Working with Unisys, we're well poised to continue expanding and enhancing the ecosystem for Linux-based enterprise computing."
Unisys has achieved certification for its ES7000 Enterprise Server line, and plans to certify all future hardware components through Novell SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9, for high quality and full compatibility with Novell requirements. Through ongoing efforts, Unisys and Novell plan to customize any joint solutions to provide customers with optimal performance and reliability.
