Virtualmin Goes Pro: Virtualmin, Inc. Announces Enhancements to World's Most Popular Open Source Virtual-Hosting System
Thursday, 15 September 2005 The developers of Virtualmin, the world's most popular Open Source virtual-hosting management system, have announced the founding of Virtualmin, Inc. (http://www.virtualmin.com). The Austin, Texas-based Virtualmin, Inc. offers easy-to-install software bundles that include all of the components necessary to operate a virtual- hosting web server and provide a consistent user experience across all tiers of a large hosting provider environment, including system administrator, reseller, domain owner, and email account user.
In particular, the new company provides customers with professional packaging and support for the Virtualmin virtual host administration tool, as well as the closely related products Webmin and Usermin. With its launch, Virtualmin, Inc. announced dozens of new features in the Virtualmin software package and support suite. "Virtualmin is now better than ever, with a new administrator's guide that covers everything a hosting server administrator needs to know, a support ticket tracker for software purchasers, a bug tracker for both customers and Open Source users, 'Quick Start' guides, FAQs, and video tutorials," stated Virtualmin, Inc.'s Joe Cooper, who co-founded Virtualmin, Inc. with Jamie Cameron.
Both Cooper and Cameron have a long and reliable track record in web-based system administration. Cooper is the author of "The Book of Webmin: Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love UNIX" (No Starch Press, 2003) and the founder of Swell Technology LLC, an Open Source-based web-caching appliance vendor in business since 1999. Cameron is the author of Virtualmin, Webmin and Usermin, as well as the Bruce Perens' Open Source Series book "Managing Linux Systems with Webmin: System Administration and Module Development" (Prentice Hall PTR, 2003).
In forming Virtualmin, Inc., Cooper and Cameron have made Virtualmin software and system development a number-one priority. Virtualmin works in tandem with Webmin, which is the most popular web-based general system administration tool in the world, and provides an easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI) for the creation and maintenance of web-hosting domain accounts. It configures industry-standard software like Apache, BIND, Postfix, Sendmail, PostgreSQL, and MySQL and is designed for use with Red Hat Enterprise Linux versions 3 and 4, CentOS Linux versions 3 and 4, and Fedora Core Linux versions 3 and 4. In development since 2003, Virtualmin now has advanced features like reseller accounts, comprehensive database management and automatic CGI script installation.
Added Cooper, "There is no more comprehensive web-based administration product available than Virtualmin. The easy-to-install package provides a complete tool chest for quick and easy virtual-hosting management, including webmail, password changes, database management, spam filter configuration and much more. A key benefit of the enhanced Virtualmin product is the community that comes with it on Virtualmin.com. The website provides expert support in forums or in real time via live chat."
