Win4Lin And Nomachine Team Up To Offer A Linux Alternative To Citrix And Microsoft Windows Terminal Services
Tuesday, 28 June 2005Win4Lin, a leading supplier of enterprise virtualization solutions on Linux, announced today a strategic partnership with NoMachine, the makers of NX Server remote access and management software. The partnership will develop and offer a Linux hosted alternative to Citrix.
Win4Lin and NoMachine will develop a Windows and Linux hybrid terminal server solution that can be used for desktop productivity, line-of-business and legacy Windows application access. The solution will be based on the NoMachine NX Distributed Computing Architecture and Win4Lin Terminal ServerTM.
"Win4Lin Terminal Server is the best way to serve up real Windows sessions from a powerful and secure Linux server," said Mark Hinkle, VP of Business Development for Win4Lin. "NoMachine redisplays hosted Windows clients with the best combination of security, cost and performance compared to any other commercial redisplay technology. Win4Lin Terminal Server and NoMachine NX Distributed Architecture together offer an enterprise-grade terminal server solution that is the best."
More and more organizations are exploring next generation architectures that leverage the ubiquity of large bandwidth networks. Many believe the biggest opportunity for dramatic cost savings and productivity gains will be in uncoupling the end-user computing experience from the traditional desktop. The high costs of maintenance of a "stateful" personal computer on a user's desktop are driving increasing numbers of companies to look at virtual access computing as a way to mitigate the cost escalations of desktop ownership.
"Combining NoMachine's capabilities of distributing applications efficiently across the network along with Win4Lin's expertise in offering award-winning tools for a successful migration from Windows to Linux will provide a vital bridge for all users who want to get out of the grip of current terminal service solutions. This alliance is an opportunity to offer not only a 100% Linux alternative, but one that guarantees state-of-the-art performance," said CEO and CTO Gian Filippo Pinzari.
Win4Lin products enable users of all sizes - from individuals and small and medium organizations to large enterprises - to more easily embrace the cost, reliability and security advantages of an end-to-end Linux infrastructure, without having to give up, port or re-write viable legacy Windows applications. Win4Lin provides the most compelling solution for bridging the compatibility gap between Windows and Linux.

NoMachine Product Suite
NX software is available in three license types: Personal Edition, Small Business Edition and Enterprise Edition. The Personal Edition is geared towards remote workers, and users who need to access their home or office PC quickly and securely from any location. SBE is suitable for those companies or organizations that need to provide application access to a small user group. Allowing up to 5 concurrent sessions you can access files, email, applications and network resources in real time, efficiently and securely. Enterprise is ideal for the larger company and multiple-user installations which are looking to boost productivity, build a competitive advantage and cut costs by delivering remote access to their mobile and remote staff. The licensing policy of per-server means that expensive CALS are eliminated and session numbers are unlimited thus lowering TCO considerably further.
